The Rio Linda Little League held its annual parade this past Saturday (always the last Saturday in March, by the way) and despite the early plans not to hold a parade this year, tradition and the pleas of the community ruled the day.
Lions President and Twin Rivers Trustee Stacey Bastian offered to take over and guide the parade to home plate.
I think things went exceptionally well. I received compliments from local agencies on how well everything went. All and all it was an amazing day. All the smiles and excitement from the kids and Community truly made it all worth it and for the Community who in cooperation with we made it happen. Every kid I spoke to said it was the best day ever and that was the spirit of the day! I want to thank RLLL for believing in me to get it done in a short amount of time and for all of the teams that participated!

“We want to thank all of the volunteers that made these floats happen, coaches, managers, parents, grandparents, and family. Twin Rivers PD, Fulton El Camino PD, and Under-Sheriff Jim Barnes for traffic control, Cindy Saylors and Sac Metro Fire for their participation, Supervisor Sue Frost, Rio Pub for covering the cost of the parade, Rio Linda Lions Club for insurance, Sacramento Valley Trail Patrol for their assistance at all road closures, DJ Robert Sanchez and Sacramento County who dispatched street sweepers within 15 minutes after parade.”
Angela Bauman, RLLL President said “I’m proud of and appreciate all the volunteers that have stepped up to help make opening day a success. Many of our volunteers have children in little league so they did double time this last week. Jumping between building floats, preparing for opening day, getting kids to and from practices on top of their normal daily jobs or activities. We had a great opening ceremony where we honored both Bob Bastian and Gertrude Thomas. John Walton amazed the crowd by singing the national anthem. We had a huge turnout. It seemed like the whole town came out. The kids and parents were smiling and laughing and all around it seemed like everyone was having a good time. I would say that the whole day was a success. It was great to see so many people out and enjoying the day.”
