The Grant Union High School Alumni Association will celebrate the awarding of over one million dollars in scholarships to graduates from Grant Union High School at a Celebration Banquet. The banquet will be held on April 14, 2018 in the Grand Ballroom of the Lions Gate Hotel. Celebration Banquet reservations can be made on line on the Grant Union High School Alumni Association website (www.guhssa.org), the Grant Union High School Alumni Association Facebook page (Grant Union High School Alumni (Sacramento, CA)) or by contacting Association President Kelvin Lee at 916-782-8962 or klee@surewest.net. Table and Celebration sponsorships are also available.
Since 1984, the Grant Union High School Alumni Association has awarded scholarships to deserving seniors at their graduation ceremony. At this year’s graduation on May 30, 2018, the Alumni Association will award $36,000 in scholarships to 12 seniors whose names will be added to 331 prior scholarship recipients. The awarding of this year’s twelve scholarships will give the GUHSAA the distinction of awarding over $1 million to outstanding students from Grant Union High School over the last 34 years.
Past scholarship recipients have attended colleges and universities throughout the United States with the greatest concentration of them attending schools in the University of California system. They have shown a broad range of interest, which includes majors in the sciences, business administration, engineering, public policy, health care and the entertainment industry. Many of the scholarship recipients were the first person in their families to attend college.
The majority of the GUHSAA funding for scholarships comes from member support, which includes gifts from individual Association members, gifts from prior year classes, endowments from the families of alumni and the newly created Alumni Association Legacy League. In addition, we have had a few alumni include us in their estate planning, as a remembrance of their days attending Grant. Our scholarship program continues to be the single greatest source of yearly awards to college bound Grant Union High School students.
The GUHSAA Board, its membership, the families of Grant’s students and the Grant community, are proud of their school and recognize the value of investing in expanding the educational opportunities for its youth. It is their legacy to ensure that future generations of Pacers will sustain an unrelenting loyalty to the Blue and Gold of Grant Union High School and provide opportunities for all Grant students to succeed in their lifelong pursuits.
