Explaining my Panhandle Vote From Supervisor Sue Frost:
Over the past several weeks I have received hundreds of e-mails and phone calls from my Rio Linda/Elverta constituents pleading with me to oppose the “Panhandle” agreement, which (among other things) would remove the “Handle” from the service area of the Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Park District (RLERPD). This action would not only significantly reduce future revenues to the district, but it would make it much more likely that the “Pan” would eventually be removed as well.
I have heard you loud and clear. Which is why I removed this item from the consent file today (it was going to be rubber-stamped) and made my case for why RLERPD should remain the service provider for the entire Panhandle. After a lot of back-and-forth, it was agreed upon that we would delay our vote until January, send the issue back to the negotiation table, and that we look into memorializing the fact that RLERPD will forever stay as the service provider of the “Pan”.
This is a significant win for RLERPD, and I am very happy with the direction this issue is heading. This issue will come for a vote in January, and I will update you as I get more information.
Sincerely,
Sue Frost, Supervisor, District 4
