Your California State Champion Rio Linda Knights will begin 2019 play at home on August 23rd.
The Knights will open at home on August 23rd hosting the Center High Cougars in a redemption game for the Knights, who fumbled this one last year 40-26. The Cougars dropped 19 first quarter points on the shell-shocked Knights who went on to outscore the Cougars 26-21 in the final three quarters of the game. Coach JBeily guided his team to the section quarterfinals where the Cougars lost to Bear River, 28-13
The next game is even more interesting; A Sac-Joaquin Section championship rematch at Casa Roble High School on August 30th. Last season the Knights outran the Casa Roble Rams 63-14 to win the Sac-Joaquin Section title. The Rams will be looking to get some payback this year.
Rio Linda will face the Cordova Lancers at home on September 6th. Cordova advanced to the section quarterfinals last year, where they ran into the Vanden High buzzsaw, losing 54-12.
September 13th begins a long three week stretch of away games and bye weeks when the Knights travel to the Roseville Tigers, whom they handled last year 64-25.
September 20th is the bye week in the Knights schedule.
On September 27th the Knights will travel down the street on Elkhorn Boulevard to face the Foothill Mustangs before coming home to begin Foothill Valley League play. Foothill advanced to the section quarterfinals last year, but lost to Sonora 28-27.
League play begins on October 4th when the Knights welcome the Ponderosa Bruins. Last year the Bruins went on to the section payoffs, losing in the first round to Buhach Colony 28-19.
On October 11th, the Knights travel to the Placer Hillmen for a Sac-Joaquin Section D3 vs. D4 showdown. Last year, the Hillmen rolled over the Knights 48-23 enroute to a 12-1 season, and went 5-0 in league play to win the FVL title. Their only loss was to Capital Christian in the Section D3 Championship game.
League Champion versus State Champion. This one will be a dog fight.
The following week, October 18th, the Knights come back to the farm to play the Lincoln Zebras. Last year, the Knights stopped the Zebras 52-35, and Lincoln went on to the Section playoffs, only to get shut down by Tracy, 49-28.
The Knights hit the road on October 25th to face the Oakmont Vikings in Roseville.
They then return home on November 1st for the league play closer to face the Nevada Union Miners.
