Tonight, Wednesday April 3rd at 5:30pm, the Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Park District will go before the Sacramento LAFCo commission to fight for its land against the City of Sacramento.
The City of Sacramento is attempting to annex the Panhandle away from the RLERPD.
Tonight the Sacramento Local Agency Formation Commission is going to vote on acceptance of the annexation agreement, which will transfer the “panhandle” area of the Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Parks District to the City of Sacramento.
This property, if annexed and developed as planned by the City of Sacramento, is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in tax revenue.
Can you imagine what hundreds of thousands of tax revenue can do for our community? The potential for this land as it is developed presents immense opportunities for the Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Park District.
For the Rio Linda community, this tax agreement currently only allocates $2500 per year for the next five years. At the end of the five year period, the Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Park District will no longer receive any property tax revenue.
We don’t care who owns the property. We don’t care who develops it. What we care about is the tax money that the RLERPD is entitled to as the legal owners of the property as an independent special district.
Most importantly, there is no reason to detach the Rio Linda Elverta Recreation and Park District as the Service Provider for any portion of the Panhandle and doing so would impact their revenues and services negatively.
We are asking you to assist us in this battle with the City. Please come out to the Public Hearing tonight at 5:30pm at the County Board of Supervisors Chambers at 700 H St. in Sacramento.
If you are unable to attend and would like to email comments to the Sacramento County Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo) Commissioners, please do so by following this link; https://saccounty.wufoo.com/forms/sacramento-lafco-commission-contact/ or by emailing to commissionclerk@saclafco.org and asking for your comments to be distributed to the full Board of Commissioners.
