On October 1. 2019 at approximately 9:14 am, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) received reports of an auto vs. pedestrian traffic collision on Palm Street at Arnold Avenue in McClellan Park. Upon arrival on scene, CHP officers discovered an elderly couple from Citrus Heights were walking southbound, across Palm Street, on their way to a dental appointment. The collision caused fatal injuries to the man and he was pronounced dead at the collision scene. The woman was not injured. The driver of the truck immediately fled the collision scene and was last seen turning southbound onto Watt Avenue from Palm Street. The driver of the truck has not been identified and the truck has not been located.
CHP investigators are looking for a 2006 to 2011 silver Toyota pickup truck that may have been associated with this collision.
The cause of the traffic collision is under investigation. No arrests have been made. It is not known if drugs, alcohol, or a medical emergency were a factor in this collision.
