On Tuesday, The Voice eliminated Rio Linda native Shane Q and Joana Martinez instead of Marybeth Byrd, which determined the seventeenth season’s Top 8 artists.
29-year-old Rio Linda High School graduate Shane Quidachay, and Joana, a 15-year-old from Miami were eliminated from The Voice competition instead of Marybeth, an 18-year-old from Armorel, AR, who was the other artist in the bottom three based on home viewer votes cast following Monday night’s Top 10 performance show.
After the three artists each sang a survival song on Tuesday night’s live show, America voted on The Voice official app and NBC.com to keep Marybeth in the competition.
Shane Q kicked off Tuesday’s elimination show by singing “Killing Me Softly With His Song” by Roberta Flack
Blake Shelton told Shane his voice is “so unique” and he had “a really great song choice.” Blake was surprised to see Shane in the bottom again, but he admitted the competition continues to get tighter and tighter.
Kelly Clarkson said she was shocked as well and this is such “a talented season” of The Voice. Kelly complimented Shane for being able to tackle different genres of music, and she thought he had selected a beautiful song for a vocalist.
Home viewers had a short five-minute window to vote for one of the three artists to stay on The Voice.
“Everybody in this competition goes home at some point. What the point is of this show — and ask Jennifer Hudson, man — you don’t have to win a show like this. You just have to be present. You have to show people what you can do. And that’s what you’ve done, Shane. You’ve improved greatly. Your range is incredible and the fact that you sing any genre you want, you’re gonna be able to do this the rest of your life. I’m not worried.”

At the end of the commercial break, the vote was 49% in Marybeth’s favor, compared to 26% of the votes that had been cast for Joana and 24% of the votes that went to Shane.
Before leaving the stage, Shane told Kelly he loved her “so much.” He thanked her for pushing him to his limits, saying, “I do my best and I try to dig deep and pull out things that I’ve never shown people on stage. I’m gonna take all of your advice and I’m going to apply it to my life and grow. I’m just gonna do what I do.”
During this season on “The Voice” Shane performed such classic tunes as “Tennessee Whiskey”, “Too Good at Goodbyes”, “In Case You Didn’t Know”, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”, “My Wish”, “Mercy” and “Caribbean Queen”.
