I attended the Community Awareness Safety Alliance (CASA) meeting tonight at the Community Center and came away with some solid information from the Sheriff’s Department, the CHP and Supervisor Roberta MacGlashan.
- Unregistered sex offender James Titman is still in the area. He is NOT in custody, and detectives are actively looking for him. He has been seen on the bike trail. Deputys ask if you see him, please call 911 immediately.
- The backyard scrapping operation on 2nd street at Lynn Way has been dismantled.
- The Sheriff’s Department has a suspect in last week’s murder of 28 year old Deandre Smith on Radalyc Way at Curved Bridge Road. They have not made an arrest.
- Law Enforcement is unaware of the “white van” making drops of homeless in Rio Linda. If you see this van and this activity taking place, you’re asked to get the license plate number and call the SSD non-emergency number at 874-5115.
- There has been a problem with transients under the bridge at 18th and Q Streets. Law enforcement has to give 48 hours notice before removing people squatting on public land. Property owners can remove transients immediately. If you are having problems with transients in the Rio Linda area, you’re asked to call the TED Team (Transient Enforcement Detail) at 874-1025. If you have a more immediate problem, call the Sheriff’s non-emergency number or 911. Along the bike trail or on public lands, you’re asked to call the Park Rangers at 916-875-PARK (7275).
Supervisor Roberta MacGlashan has been a great friend to the Rio Linda/Elverta community and she continues to bring great information every month.
- Sacramento County no longer allows operation of ANY medical marijuana facilities.
- The new Rio Linda Library project is advancing as expected and is on track to open in the Fall this year.
- Developers continue to push density of the Elverta Specific Plan project upwards. Developers have been told they need buffer zones between semi-rural/Equestrian estates and higher density homes. They’ve also been asked to provide solutions to traffic and drainage issues created by driving the number of homes upwards.
- There was a meeting of the Rio Linda Visions Plan Task Force recently where they reviewed the details of the plan and the suggestions made at the last review meeting. Changes to the plan have been proposed and will be presented at the June 2013 CPAC meeting. An EIR will follow, and hearings should take place in the Fall.
Bob Bastian of the Twin Rivers Union School District board addressed the group and informed us that tomorrow, 5/17/2013, Dr. Steven Martinez of Fresno will be named the new Superintendent of the TRUSD.
Mr. Bastian also noted that Henry Woo of the Sacramento City Police Department will shortly be named the Twin Rivers Police Department Chief of Police.
That’s the full it. Hope to see you at the next meeting in July.
