Earlier this week, Sacramento County Public Health had made arrangements for some health clubs, including Rio Linda Fitness, to reopen as early as Monday, May 25th.
Now, citing state guidance, Sacramento County officials said today that the county no longer plans to allow small health clubs to reopen with modifications.
“The Department of Health Services was willing to work with small fitness studios to re-open based on significant restrictions and requirements that ensured ample space between customers and staff and disinfecting shared equipment in order to protect public health. However, we have received feedback from the state Department of Public Health that no gyms or small fitness studios of any kind may re-open at this point, and we will respect and follow that guidance.”

Previously, requirements included having 250 square feet between people and a maximum of eight clients at a time. Clients had to pre-register for their sessions and couldn’t share equipment. Clubs also had to follow stringent guidelines for disinfecting.
The latest guidance means Sacramento County health clubs (such as Rio Linda Fitness) which planned to reopen with modifications as soon as Memorial Day can no longer do so, per Sacramento County.
