For those who aren’t on Facebook (the one or two of you) Let me tell you about Kristi Davis.
Kristi is a home-grown girl. When she was Kristi Guy, she went to Rio Linda elementary, and graduated as a Knight in 1988. She married her high school sweetheart, Eddie Davis.
In 1999 she was diagnosed with a rare auto-immune disease, Parry Romberg Syndrome. It is a wasting away of one side of her facial tissue, muscle and bone. She has a complete deterioration of the left side of her face.
She is scheduled for corrective surgery on November 1st in Madison, Wisconsin at the Univ of Wisconsin Hospital. The doctors will correct the deterioration caused by the disease by transferring her own tissue into her face and reconnecting the blood supply. Of course, this means she will be required to stay in Wisconsin for two weeks after the surgery. She will be in the hospital for at least 4 days.
She has been waiting over 10 years to have this surgery.
BUT… she needs some financial support to make this happen, and the community has largely granted her wishes. Kristi has been selling cookbooks and quilts to fund the trip and there have been two car washes which have now raised nearly $6000 dollars toward her goal of $11000.
One final fundraiser has been scheduled for October 25th… The Fall Fest Fundraiser and Vendor Fair, will be held from 3-8pm in the parking lot of the Creamery at Rio Linda Plaza (924 Oak Lane). Vendor spots are $20 each. There will be Spaghetti Dinner for $15/each or two for $25. All proceeds from vendor spots and Spaghetti… dinners will go towards her travel expenses and hospital bills for surgery on 11/1.
