Sunday afternoon a man was killed near Watt and Hurley which led to a pursuit of suspects from North Highlands to Davis and back.
Deputies responded to the 3500 block of San Ysidro Way near Hurley Way and Watt Avenue shortly after 5 p.m. after receiving a call of an injured male. They found a man with traumatic injuries, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
The man was declared dead at the scene.
Witnesses told deputies a Kia vehicle was seen leaving the scene, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies found the vehicle soon after near Watt and Interstate 80 and initiated a traffic stop, but the suspects got on I-80 West with Sheriff officers in pursuit.
The suspects led officers to Mace Boulevard in Davis where they reversed direction and started back east to Sacramento. The pursuit exceeded 120 mph at times, and several attempts were made by CHP to trap the vehicle with spike strips. It’s unclear if any of the attempts were successful.
The suspect vehicle exited Interstate 80 at Greenback Lane and proceeded westbound on Auburn Blvd. heading back into North Highlands where they roamed in the North Highlands area for some time.
Ultimately the pursuit ended on Peacekeeper Way after a Sheriff vehicle executed a pit maneuver and the suspect vehicle crashed into a fence. The driver and passenger were taken into custody.
