The California Highway Patrol is reporting that today at about 8:40 AM, North Sacramento CHP units were dispatched to a call of a collision that occurred on westbound I-80 on the Longview Drive off-ramp.
Upon arrival on scene, units discovered that a dark blue Chevrolet Silverado had struck the guardrail and overhead sign pole on the Longview Drive off-ramp.
Officers have determined that the 82-year-old male driver from Rio Linda had (for unknown reasons) lost control of the Silverado while taking the Longview Drive off-ramp and subsequently struck the guardrail and overhead sign pole.
The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene and the cause of the collision is still under investigation. Currently, it is unknown whether drugs and/or alcohol were contributing factors to the collision.
