Twin Rivers community members, staff, principals, parents and business partners gathered to mark Dr. Steven Martinez’s first 100 days on the job. The following message to the community was made available at the breakfast meeting in a brochure titled “The First 100 Days.” The complete publication is available on the district’s web site at www.twinriversusd.org.
To every student, parent, teacher, business partner and community member, I want to say thank you. Thank you for making my First 100 Days a truly special time. There’s so much to be proud of, especially how all of us have joined together in putting students first.
I’m excited—completely energized by what is taking place in Twin Rivers. We are TR! Together we are creating a clear and powerful vision of where we are going. In fact, our aspirations are higher than ever as we press forward to provide a world-class education where all students graduate college and career ready.
Before I was hired, I gave the Twin Rivers Unified School District Board of Trustees a 100 Day Entry Plan. It’s the framework for what we need to accomplish in order to better serve students and keep them on the path to success. I’m happy to report we have met nearly 90 percent of the target goals:
Goal 1-Student Achievement: To focus organizational efforts and align resources to ensure all students are college and career ready and achievement gaps are closed.
Goal 2-Governance Team/Board of Education: To establish and promote highly effective district governance by building a trusting, productive, honest, collaborative relationship with the Twin Rivers Board of Education.
Goal 3-Organizational Capacity and Alignment/District Executive Staff: To increase organizational effectiveness and efficiency and ensure high performance and support to schools.
Goal 4-Organization Culture: To establish a respectful, positive district culture centered on teaching and learning.
Goal 5-Community and Public Relations: To build public trust and confidence through open, honest communication and positive relationships.
It is a wonderful start as we put systems in place that will ensure our students and employees have every opportunity to be the best they can be.
Please visit the Twin Rivers web site at www.twinriversusd.org and read the complete 100 Day publication detailing our progress. My hope is that you will have a better sense of our direction, priorities and progress as we move to implementation of the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English language arts and mathematics. You can learn more about CCSS by visiting our website at www.twinriversusd.org.
While we are pleased with our progress, we’re not yet satisfied—there is still a tremendous amount of hard work ahead of us. I’m confident that with all of us working together in unity, Twin Rivers Unified School District will become one of the leading school districts in the state of California; the potential is certainly here. I knew this when I made the decision that Twin Rivers is where I want to be; Twin Rivers is where I belong.
We are TR, and our children inspire me.
