The California Highway Patrol (CHP), North Sacramento Area, has revealed plans to conduct a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Sobriety Checkpoint on Friday, September 1, 2023, within the unincorporated region of Sacramento County. The checkpoint operation is scheduled to commence at approximately 9:30 p.m., becoming fully operational at 10:00 p.m., and will be in effect until 3:00 a.m.
However, in the event of unfavorable weather conditions, the checkpoint will be canceled to prioritize safety. In such cases, the law enforcement officers will be redirected to roving DUI units, ensuring the safety of both officers and the public.
The sobriety checkpoint will be manned by proficient CHP officers, all of whom have undergone specialized training to identify signs of impairment caused by alcohol and/or drugs. Certified CHP Drug Recognition Experts, accredited by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, will be present at the site to conduct immediate assessments of drivers suspected of drug influence. Additionally, officers will utilize state-of-the-art handheld breath testing devices, offering accurate readings of blood alcohol concentrations in suspected cases of drunk driving.
Access to the precise location of the sobriety checkpoint can be obtained by reaching out to the CHP Sacramento Communications Center two hours prior to the checkpoint’s commencement. Interested parties can contact the center at (916) 861-1300 or connect with the on-call Public Information Officer (PIO) at (916) 798-0975.
Funding for this important program has been secured through a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety, in collaboration with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
