In a bizarre incident that unfolded Thursday night, a pedestrian lost their life in a hit-and-run collision near the intersection of Elkhorn and 6th Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The victim, identified as a male pedestrian, was struck while crossing the road shortly after 9:30 p.m. The driver responsible for this fatal encounter callously fled the scene, leaving the injured individual in the street. First responders from Metro Fire Station 111 rushed to the scene, but they pronounced the pedestrian deceased on-site.
A second vehicle traveling on Elkhorn took evasive action to avoid the victim lying on the road. It appears that the vehicle lost control coming to a halt in the front yard of a nearby residence. The driver of this second vehicle sustained severe injuries and had to be extracted from underneath his vehicle before he could be transported to the hospital for medical attention.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is searching for the hit-and-run suspect, believed to have been driving a silver Pontiac at the time of the incident.
The victim’s identity will be disclosed by the Sacramento County Coroner.
