There’s no doubt about it- It was a defensive battle from the first whistle to the last.
On Friday night the Rio Linda Knights paid a call on the Foothill Mustangs at Frank Negri Field in Foothill Farms, Right down the street on Elkhorn Blvd., and gave the 2-1 Mustangs all they could handle, and more.
The Knights held the Mustangs scoreless throughout the game- Pitched a shutout- while scoring a pair of Safety’s in the 1st and 2nd quarter. The halftime score looked more like baseball. It was Knights 4, Mustangs zip at the half.
With three minutes to play in the 3rd, Johnathan Fansler punched in an off-tackle run from about 8 yards out for the Knight’s only touchdown, and Jesus Naranjo sealed the deal with a 2-point conversion.
Final score, Knights 12, Mustangs 0.
After three weeks away from Rio Linda High School, the Knights come home for Homecoming this Friday, September 22nd. Their opponent will be the 0-4 Placer Hillmen, who are dinged up and injured but are coming off a bye week which has allowed them to rest and recuperate before this game.
Don’t let that 0-4 record fool you. Placer has played as tough a schedule as can be, losing to teams like 21st-ranked Roseville, 10th-ranked Vista Del Lago, 5th-ranked Del Oro, and 8th-ranked Casa Roble, who Rio Linda will face in just 2-weeks, our second Golden Empire League game of the year.
The Knights vaunted Black Death Defense will need every bit of what they had at Foothill to keep Placer and their Wing-T offense out of the endzone early and often.
Game time is 7:30pm for Varsity, 5:30pm for JV.
By the way, get there early and enjoy the JV game as well. You won’t regret it. They have next season’s Varsity stars on the field already.
And now, please accept my apologies for my awful pictures!
