Pedestrian Killed in North Highlands Overnight

A hit-and-run incident involving a pedestrian is currently under investigation by authorities in the North Highlands area. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the incident occurred on Thursday night (1/25/24) at approximately 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Walerga Road and Elkhorn Boulevard, where a pedestrian was crossing the street within a crosswalk while the traffic signal for oncoming vehicles displayed a green light.

An eyewitness at the scene provided a description of the suspect vehicle, which was identified as a dark grey 4-door sedan with significant damage and a broken headlight. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District confirmed that the vehicle involved in the incident fled the area.

As of now, the identity of the victim remains undisclosed, pending further investigation.
