Rosario Rodriguez, a Folsom City Council member and restaurant proprietor, has expanded her lead in the race for the 4th District seat on the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. The latest vote count indicates Rodriguez has captured nearly 52% of the vote in a competitive three-candidate field, positioning her to possibly secure the seat without the need for a November runoff.
Rodriguez, a conservative Republican, received the endorsement of the outgoing Supervisor, Sue Frost. Frost, who announced her decision not to seek re-election in July, leaves behind a legacy in a district that spans several communities including Rio Linda, Elverta, Antelope, Citrus Heights, Folsom, and Orangevale, among others. Rodriguez’s opponents in the race were Braden Murphy, a newcomer with Democratic affiliations, and Bret Daniels, the conservative mayor of Citrus Heights. As of the latest update, Daniels trailed with 26% of the vote, while Murphy garnered 22%.
The Board of Supervisors wields considerable influence with its control over an almost $9 billion budget, impacting a range of county services and overseeing critical departments including health and human services, as well as law enforcement agencies.
Rodriguez’s lead is notable not just for its size but also for its potential to uphold the conservative influence in the district. Her campaign, marked by a focus on innovative strategies and collaborative teamwork, was hailed by her political advisor, Tab Berg, who confidently stated that her vote percentage points to a decisive victory in the primary election.
Looking forward, Rodriguez has already formed her transition team, indicating her preparation for assuming office in January 2025. The team includes notable figures such as Tab Berg of TABcommunications and Amanda Blackwood from I-Street Public Affairs, underscoring a comprehensive approach to policy and staffing in anticipation of her tenure on the board.
