One individual lost their life and another was detained following a three-vehicle collision on Tuesday evening just north of Sacramento, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Elverta Road and Dominion Way near Antelope.
Authorities reported that a truck was halted at the intersection when it was rear-ended by another truck for reasons still unknown. The impact forced the first truck into the path of a third truck crossing the intersection, explained the CHP North Sacramento.
The operator of the second truck, responsible for the initial rear-end collision, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. He was described as a man likely in his 60s or 70s.
The driver of the third truck, after colliding with the first truck, fled the scene but was subsequently apprehended. He faces charges of hit-and-run and driving under the influence, although he will not be charged in connection with the crash or the resulting fatality as he was not at fault, the CHP clarified.
The first truck’s driver, a minor, was involved in two impacts yet sustained no injuries.
