On Wednesday, firefighters successfully halted the spread of a fire that ignited in a building and extended to nearby vegetation at an abandoned property in Placer County, according to Cal Fire.
The blaze, located at the intersection of S. Brewer Road and Baseline Road, produced a thick column of black smoke visible in the southwestern part of Placer County, just north of Rio Linda.
Upon arrival, the initial crews encountered a half-acre vegetation fire that had spread from a fully engulfed building and a vehicle on the abandoned site. Firefighters managed to stop the forward progress of the fire shortly after noon.
Baseline Road was temporarily closed from Pleasant Grove Road to Watt Avenue due to smoke affecting visibility on the road. The road has since been reopened. No injuries were reported.
