Knights varsity football coach Jeff Freeman has resigned.
I spoke to Coach Freeman this afternoon. He tendered his resignation on June 28th and has taken advantage of an unexpected opportunity that became available in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Freeman was the third coach to head up Knights football since the State Championship year in 2018, and the Josh Caton-led short COVID year in 2020. In three seasons he acquired a record of 8 wins and 22 losses.
Coming so suddenly in front of the Sac-Joaquin section’s July “dead period”, there’s been no time to conduct a head coach search. Offensive Coordinator Ralph Quijada has stepped in as Interim Head Coach for the 24/25 season. Insiders say Quijada is “…taking it on like a champ and the kids really respect him.”
The first official practice (according to section rules) can take place on July 29th.
The Knights’ new season in the freshly realigned Golden Empire league kicks off on August 23rd at Lincoln High School, and they come back to Rio Linda for the home opener on August 30th versus the Placer Hillmen. The league opener is scheduled for September 20th, at home against nearby rivals the Natomas Nighthawks.
