Around this time every year, the Rio Linda/Elverta Chamber of Commerce holds an annual “Honorary Mayor” fund-raising promotion to benefit the Chamber and a local non-profit group.
Honorary Mayor candidates can be sponsored by groups such as the Lions, or the Rio Linda Little League, or schools, PTA, and churches. The candidate must live within the Rio Linda/Elverta zip codes, and the sponsoring organization must be in the postal zone as well. It costs $25, payable to the Chamber of Commerce, to sponsor a candidate.
Candidates sell tickets for $1 each and the money raised is split 50/50 between the Chamber and the sponsoring organization. The winning candidate is determined by the total number of votes he or she sells, and is announced at the Honorary Mayor’s Ball. No Honorary Mayor can serve more than two consecutive years.
Ticket sales begin April 9th, 2015 and end June 11th, 2015.

(Ps… let’s get the civic governance of Rio Linda straight before I get a million emails. Rio Linda and Elverta are unincorporated communities within the jurisdiction of Sacramento County. The closest thing we have to an actual “mayor” would be our County Supervisor, Roberta MacGlashan. Sacramento County provides all of our civil services such as law enforcement, refuse disposal, code enforcement, and road maintenance.)
