The new school year can’t come soon enough! We miss our students and look forward to seeing all of them when they return August 20. Your child’s schedule will look slightly different for the 2015-2016 school year. All students will be released two hours early every Wednesday. Students will start school the same time daily.
Twin Rivers has shifted to Professional Learning Time (PLT)/Early Release Wednesday to replace Late Start Wednesday. The decision was made after important feedback from our parents through a districtwide auto call survey on May 7 and May 10. The majority (61 percent) favored PLT/Early Release Wednesday which will help the district achieve its goal of increasing student academic achievement. PLT was supported by 65 percent of staff and is also supported by all the district’s bargaining units.
Research clearly shows that mornings are the prime learning time for young students. Their energy and learning levels are higher and last throughout the day. Students understand classroom material better and also do better with achievement. For those reasons, we truly believe PLT/Early Release Wednesday is an essential step to accelerate your child’s learning and improve outcomes for all students.
We are working to make this transition as smooth as possible for our parents. Bus schedules have been adjusted for an early release on Wednesdays. New route times will be announced in July and will be posted on the district’s website and distributed to all school sites. If your child is currently enrolled in an after-school program, providers will be prepared to receive students on PLT/Early Release Wednesday. The new schedule will not affect the ability of our schools to offer full athletic programs. Any necessary adjustments to practice times will be announced by each coach.
Our unwavering focus, as always, is on classroom instruction, improving educational outcomes for all students, and providing our employees with the tools and resources they need to collaborate and significantly impact student achievement.
Thank you for your input and support for PLT/Early Release Wednesday, and please check the district’s website at www.twinriversusd.org and your school website for more information.
We Are TR!
Sincerely, Dr. Steven Martinez,
Superintendent Twin Rivers Unified School District
