At approximately 10:30PM on June 15, 2014, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 100 block of Dolphin Way in Rio Linda for a shooting call. When Deputies arrived, they encountered a 54-year old male had been shot. The shooting victim was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Bill and Jean Stidman lived in their Rio Linda home with their two female teenage foster children. Jacob Wilcoxen and a 17-year-old associate went to the Stidman’s home with a plan to sneak into the house after the Stidmans went to bed and have sex with the two female teenagers. Mr. Stidman found Wilcoxen in the 14-year-old foster daughter’s bed and confronted Wilcoxen. When Wilcoxen attempted to leave, Mr. Stidman, who was a licensed security guard and former police officer, said he was going to arrest him. Wilcoxen then pulled a concealed .38 caliber revolver and shot Mr. Stidman four times, killing him. Mr. Stidman lived long enough to give the first responding deputy basic information, and ask paramedics to tell his wife he loved her.
On August 22, 2016, a jury convicted Jacob Wilcoxen of the first-degree murder of Bill Stidman. The jury also found true that Wilcoxen personally used a firearm causing death.
Judge Cheryl Meegan sentenced Jacob Wilcoxen to 50 years to life in prison.
