Metro Fire is on the scene of a small aircraft crash into a backyard at 28th and U Streets near the Cherry Island Soccer Complex.
Capt. Chris Vestal, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District spokesman, said the crash occurred at a home in the area of 28th and U streets Thursday afternoon.
Vestal said he did not know whether the home was damaged, but firefighters searched the residence and no one was found inside. The crash did not result in a fire, he said.
Vestal said the pilot, the only person aboard the plane, was transported to an area hospital. The pilot died as a result of the accident.
The plane was a single-engine, home-built Lancair IV-P, Owned by Pilot Proficiency Inc. of Henderson Nevada.
