On the evening of May 8, 2023, just before 9 P.M., the Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Fawn Hollow Way in Antelope, in response to a car accident that may have involved a shooting. Upon arrival, they found an unconscious 20-year-old man in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save his life, the victim was declared dead at the scene.
Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators were called in to investigate the incident. They spoke to witnesses and gathered evidence, leading to the identification of the suspects. Following a thorough investigation, the detectives discovered that the victim and his girlfriend had arranged to meet with a 19-year-old male, later identified as Randall WATANABE, in Firestone Park to buy drugs. When they met, WATANABE attempted to rob the victim at gunpoint, and as the victim tried to drive away, WATANABE shot him, causing him to crash into a parked car a few hundred feet away. WATANABE then fled the scene in another vehicle.
Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspects. 23-year-old Leah PEREZ was identified as the driver of the getaway car, and 18-year-old Oscar SILVESTRE was identified as the person who had organized the drug deal. All three suspects were taken into custody on May 9, 2023, and were booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.
WATANABE was charged with Murder (PC 187(a)) and Robbery (PC 211), while PEREZ and SILVESTRE were charged with Robbery (PC 211) and Conspiracy (PC 182(a)(1)). The three suspects were denied bail and are scheduled to appear in court on May 11, 2023, at 3:00 P.M.
