59-Year-Old Bicyclist Dies after Crash with Minivan in Rio Linda
RIO LINDA, CA (May 12, 2019) – A bicyclist was killed in a traffic collision with a minivan Sunday evening in Rio Linda.
The collision happened around 7:23 p.m. at Elkhorn Boulevard and Cherry Lane.
According to CHP’s news release, a blue Toyota minivan was driving westbound on Elkhorn Boulevard with a green light, when the bicyclist apparently entered the roadway via the Sacramento Northern Bike Trail and ran the red pedestrian/bicyclist signal.
The bicyclist, a 59-year-old Sacramento man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released pending family notification.
The driver, a 43-year-old Clovis resident, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
No arrests were made at this time, and drugs and alcohol are not suspected as factors in the collision. Further investigation of this incident is underway.
