The California Highway Patrol Released their report to the media at 3:42pm.
AUTO VS PEDESTRIAN MAJOR INJURY COLLISION IN RIO LINDA
On April 8, 2019 at approximately 8:06 pm, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) received reports of a traffic collision on “M” Street, east of 4th Avenue.
CHP officers arrived on scene and discovered a vehicle had collided with a parked vehicle and a pedestrian.
During the initial on scene investigation, CHP officers learned that Ronny Ward III (09/08/1995) had been driving his Jeep westbound on “M” Street east of 4th Avenue when he veered to the right and collided with a Chevy Impala that was parked on the north edge of the roadway.
The collision between the two vehicles caused the Chevy to be pushed into a 23-year old woman who was standing at the left front of the Chevy. She was transported to a local area trauma center with life threatening injuries.
Officers later learned that the woman was approximately six months pregnant at the time of the collision.
Ward was subsequently arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and driving with a suspended driver license.
He was booked into the into the Sacramento County Main Jail. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
