A well-known pizza joint in South Sacramento has created a spin-off in Rio Linda at the former Papa’s Pizza location.
Famous Pizza, which has two storefronts in South Sacramento, is preparing to open in the MarVal Plaza, at 960 Oak Lane, the former location of Papa’s Pizzaria.
Owner/Partner Matthew Tran has been in the location since the end of March and the original plan was to be open by May 1st, but it looks like renovations are taking longer than expected and that date will be pushed to Mid to late May.
The renovations are immediately obvious and the place is shaping up well. A light-colored wood laminate floor and diamond steel wall covering on the counter immediately got my attention, but the realization that all the old original tabletops were gone along with the graffiti from the 80s and 90s made me pause.
“We’ve had the keys since the end of March, and we’ve done a lot of renovations, a lot of starting up… The floor was one of the biggest projects we did.”
Mr. Tran honed his pizza biz knowledge at the two current Famous Pizza locations, (one on Freeport, one on 42nd) and made an arrangement with the current Famous Pizza owner to franchise the name, menu, recipes, and ingredients to bring to Rio Linda.
“It’s a franchise, but not a franchise. It’s Famous Pizza, but it’s really me and my partner’s pizza shop.”
