Late in the evening on March 13th, 2023, a pedestrian was walking across Elkhorn Boulevard at Butterball Way when he was struck by a late model Corvette eastbound on Elkhorn at a high rate of speed.
The Driver, Ilya Shamailov, was unable to slow the Corvette before colliding with the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead on scene by Metro Fire paramedics.
Additionally, the passenger in the Corvette sustained major life-threatening injuries and was transported to Mercy San Juan for treatment.
The driver was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence, was medically cleared, and was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.
