The California Highway Patrol reports that on October 16, 2020 at approximately 355 pm, a collision involving a van and a pedestrian on Watt Avenue south of Navajo Dr. occurred.
CHP learned that a white Ford Econoline van was traveling north on Watt Ave. at approximately 40 MPH in the left lane when an adult male stepped from the right sidewalk and attempted to cross the roadway, out of a crosswalk, directly into the path of the van.
The male driver attempted to avoid the pedestrian but was unable to avoid the prevent a collision with the pedestrian. The pedestrian was struck and came to rest in the roadway.
Metro Fire responded to the scene of the collision and pronounced the pedestrian DOA.
The identity of the pedestrian has yet to be determined. The driver remained on scene and was cooperative with investigators.
Alcohol and/or drugs were not determined to be a factor and the cause of the collision is currently under investigation.
