On June 19, 2020 at approximately 12:37 am, The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a call of a wrong way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-5, south of Powerline Road.
At approximately 12:42 am, the wrong way driver collided with another vehicle traveling on I-5 southbound just south of Powerline Road.
CHP units responded to the traffic collision and discovered a Honda Accord was traveling on I-5 southbound when it collided head on with the wrong way vehicle (Subaru Outback) just south of Powerline Road. The 56 year-old female driver of the Honda Accord, from Beiber, California, and the 49 year-old male driver of the Subaru Outback, from Sonoma, California, were pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision.
The 60 year-old male passenger in the Honda Accord was transported to U.C. Davis Medical Center for major injuries sustained as a result of the collision. The cause of the collision is still under investigation. Traffic was diverted from I-5 southbound to the Airport Boulevard exit for approximately three hours while the collision was investigated.
