The #16 ranked Rio Linda Knights defeated the Center Cougars 27-7 at Center High school and gave Head Coach Justin Reber his first win at RLHS.
Rio Linda Senior standout Marcel Brown rushed for 196 yards on 26 carries and scored 3 touchdowns. Junior running back Calvin Robinson ran for 68 yards on 5 carries and added a score. Quarterback Zak Burden threw for 43 yards on 6/22 passing, with one interception and added 90 yards on the ground. Senior WR Aaron Vang had one reception for 25 yards.
Senior LB Pieter Koopman led the smothering Knights defense with 10 tackles.
The Knights face Roseville in the home opener next week, September 5th. Game time is 7pm at Rio Linda’s Marion Adams stadium.
In other area games, East Nicolaus lost to Rio Vista 28-0, Inderkum downed Reno (NV) 19-3 and Highlands lost to Mesa Verde 48-18.
