We couldn’t have asked for better weather for the community to take a huge step forward.
Under clear blue early spring skies, Rio Linda Elverta Community Water District General Manager Mary Henrici and the RLECWD Board of Directors invited the community out to cut the ribbon and inspect their latest project; The completed 1.2 million gallon reservoir and associated pump station. The reservoir took ten months to complete at a cost of approximately $3 million dollars, and was designed by Affinity Engineering and constructed by JJM Engineering Constructors, Inc., a local Rio Linda business.
This is the last piece needed in order to correct the District’s compliance order. It has enabled the California Department of Water Resources to lift the building moratorium which has been in effect since November of 2007. It also eliminates the need for the Sacramento Metro Fire District to send a water pumper to each fire call in the District’s service area.
This project has been awarded the American Society of Civil Engineers (Sacramento Section) 2014 Environmental Project Award. The new facility features environmentally friendly drought-tolerant landscaping, low level LED lighting to reduce energy usage and light pollution in the residential neighborhood, and preserved trees to improve screening. Solatubes were installed to take advantage of natural sunlight and reduce energy usage in the control panel room and a natural gas generator is installed as a cleaner alternative to diesel.
Many people were on hand to speak, including Board president Duane Anderson, Richard Hinrichs and Jule Rizzardo of the California Water Resources Control Board, and Sacramento County Supervisors Roberta MacGlashan and Phil Serna.
