The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District (Metro Fire) will conduct a smoke alarm “blitz” in North Highlands following a rash of home fires resulting in multiple injuries, a fatality, and in homes WITHOUT working smoke alarms. Joining Metro Fire will be the Fire Fighters Burn Institute; one of our most important partners in Northern California for burn prevention and recovery programs.
This will occur on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 between 8 am and 10:30 am in the North Highlands area near Thomas Drive, Bainbdrige Dr, Arroyo Seco Ln, and Larchmont Dr. including nearby cross streets.
Additionally, we will take precautions related to COVID-19, all personnel will be wearing a uniform with identification cards, and we will not seek any personal information.
Metro Fire’s goal is to improve the safety of one of our many communities which has been adversely affected by recent home fires. Residents in other areas of the District should call (916) 859-4300 and request the Community Services Division for information about proper smoke alarm installation and maintenance in their home.
No personnel will enter homes, but will provide information on how and where some alarms and carbon monoxide alarms should be installed. There is no cost for any services provided.
Residents in the North Highlands area may receive a doorbell ring or knock on their door from Metro Fire personnel but should not be concerned. There is no obligation or expectation to participate, but Metro Fire hopes to increase community safety through this program.
