What better way to end a winter day than with a warm taste of home-made chili? That’s just what community members experienced at the Dec. 2 board meeting.
Four high schools participated in the first Twin Rivers Chili Cook-off and plans are in place to make it an annual tradition. The perpetual trophy for the tastiest overall chili was awarded to the winning team from Grant Union High School. A plaque will be on display at the district office with next year’s slot up for grabs.
Board members judged the chili contest and in addition to an overall winner, they awarded ribbons for some creative categories:
- Foothill High School, “Most Original Award” for use of unique ingredients
- Grant Union High School, “Five Alarm Award” for spiciest chili
- Highlands High School, “Best Lookin’ Award” for most visually-appealing chili
- Rio Linda High School, “Best Smellin’ Award” for most aromatic chili
Following official board business, everyone was invited to sample the various recipes in the gallery.
