An motorcycle rider from Elk Grove was killed in a crash on Interstate 80 near Madison Avenue this afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Today around 2pm units were dispatched to a report of a collision on Interstate 80 westbound just this side of Madison Avenue. Upon arrival to the scene, units discovered a black Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle ridden by a 40-year old male from Elk Grove was involved in a collision with a silver Hyundai Elantra (driven by a 54-year old male from Sacramento).
Upon initial investigation, units determined the Kawasaki Ninja was traveling between the #3 and #4 lane of westbound traffic when the front of the motorcycle collided with the rear of the Hyundai Elantra. The rider of the Kawasaki Ninja was ejected from the motorcycle, and sustained major, life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision.
Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and immediately transported the rider to Mercy San Juan Medical Center. However, the rider succumbed to his injuries at approximately 2:57 PM.
The #3 through #6 lanes on I-80 westbound west of Madison Avenue were closed for approximately 55 minutes for the investigation. The cause of the collision is still under investigation and it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.
