At 8:24 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, the Sheriff’s Department Communication Center began receiving 911 calls from residents within the 5800 block of West 2nd Street in Rio Linda. Initial calls indicated there were multiple gunshots heard in the area and a vehicle was heard speeding away after the shots. Additional 911 callers indicated there was a male victim at the scene that had been shot.
Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene and located the 38-year-old male victim lying in a driveway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Sheriff’s deputies immediately began life-saving measures. Personnel from the Sacramento City Fire Department and Sacramento Metro Fire Department arrived at the scene. The victim was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
During the course of this investigation, Sheriff’s Detectives identified 37-year-old Joshua A. Imber of Rio Linda, as the suspect in this shooting.
Sheriff’s Department Detectives later located Imber, driving a vehicle near the area of Corning, California. While being assisted by the California Highway Patrol, Sheriff’s Detectives attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle Imber was driving. Imber failed to immediately stop for officers and a vehicle pursuit ensued.
The vehicle pursuit terminated near southbound Interstate 5 at County Road 20, where Imber was taken into custody. Imber was transported back to Sacramento and was later booked into custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail for attempted murder.
The victim, in this case, remains hospitalized and is in critical condition.
