via Sacramento County Emergency/Preparedness:
A severe storm is coming and will be bringing heavy winds and rains for the valleys and significant snowfall in the mountains. The Sacramento Office of Emergency Services is coordinating with local service providers to prepare for the storm. The storm may cause power outages, localized flooding, downed trees and/or power lines. Crews are gearing up and additional staff are on alert.
You can gear up around your home and prepare your family and pets as well. Before the storm hits, scoop up leaves and debris to reduce gutter and storm drain clogs. Put away lightweight objects in your yards. Check your trees for cracked or uplifted soil on the opposite side of a leaning tree and inspect for cracks in the trunk or at the base of limbs.
What residents can do:
- Clear debris from gutters and downspouts
- Drive safely and slowly
- Keep clear of downed power lines
- Monitor local weather forecasts
- Tie down or properly store outdoor refuse cans, lawn equipment, decorations
- Inventory or create emergency preparedness kits
- Do not remove manhole covers
- Pet owners check to be sure pets are secure and safe
