At 7:20am today, March 3, 2014, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department was contacted to assist the California Highway Patrol in a call they received regarding a possible carjacking just-occurred in the 7000 block of Elder Street. Deputies received updated information that a vehicle matching the description of the carjacked vehicle had been involved in a single-vehicle accident at 9th Street and Elverta Road in Rio Linda.
A result of the investigation revealed that a male in his 30’s broke into a locked vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence on Elder Street. The vehicle owner physically confronted the suspect, who ran away during the altercation. The suspect then broke out the window of a second locked vehicle parked in a driveway nearby, and was in the process of leaving the scene with the car, when the vehicle owner attempted to stop him. This victim was injured during the incident and transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The suspect lost control of the stolen vehicle at Elverta Road / 9th Street and crashed, receiving moderate injuries to his leg.
The suspect will be booked into custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail, once he is medically cleared for incarceration. His name will be released once he officially clears the booking process at the jail.
