RLHS freshman football coach, track coach and media teacher Marion Adams was involved in a freak bicycle accident at the school yesterday, and passed away this morning after fighting his way through surgery last night.
Late on Monday afternoon, Coach Adams was leaving track practice on his bike and ran into a yellow gate arm as he left the stadium. The impact caused internal damage, and he was rushed to Mercy San Juan Hospital. Although attempts so sustain him were made throughout the night, he did not survive.
Mr. Adams began at Rio Linda High School in 2004. He taught digital media and television broadcasting. He served as Head Track Coach and Head Freshman Football Coach.
Football coaches are a special breed who provide guidance, discipline, structure and a sense of accomplishment to boys who are figuring out how to become men. Coach Adams positively influenced many of our community’s boys.
A vigil will be held this evening at 6pm in Rio Linda High’s Senior Square.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Coach Adams, his players, his students and the staff at Rio Linda High this morning.
