Rio Linda, CA – The Rio Linda Knights (0-2) kicked off their 2024 season with a disappointing 54-7 loss to the #8 ranked, 2-0 Placer Hillmen. Despite the lopsided score, the Knights showcased moments of resilience and determination throughout the game.
The Hillmen dominated early, taking advantage of multiple turnovers by the Knights. While the Knights struggled offensively, several players stood out. RB/WR Baylor Kelley was a standout performer for Placer, contributing significantly on both sides of the ball. On the Rio Linda side, WR/DB Kevin Parra, QB CJ Cook, and RB/LB Joseph Corey all made notable contributions, with Corey scoring the lone Knights touchdown in the second quarter.
Coach Ralf Quijada made a strategic move in the second half, alternating quarterbacks to spark the offense. While the change generated some positives, the Knights couldn’t generate the points they needed.
Moving forward, the Knights will be looking to build on the positive moments from the game and address the areas where they struggled. Their upcoming matchup against Center will be a crucial opportunity to turn things around and secure their first win of the season.
Additional Notes:
- This was the Knights’ first home game of the season, featuring a new run-in tunnel that added excitement to the atmosphere.
- The pre-game meal was sponsored by Tummy’s Sub Shop, providing a delicious treat for the players.
- The upcoming games against Center, Foothill, and Natomas will be crucial for the Knights’ season, with the Natomas game being the first league contest.
The Knights will need to regroup and focus on improving their performance to achieve their goals for the season.
