A 52-year-old Rio Linda, California man is facing a federal drug charge after a Wyoming trooper found 54.4 pounds of methamphetamine as well as heroin and cocaine in the car he was towing.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Wyoming on Thursday charged Arnold Devonne Butler with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
According to a criminal complaint, a trooper stopped Butler on Interstate 80 east of Cheyenne on May 14 after noticing there wasn’t a U.S. DOT number on his tow truck, and that the car on his bed was strapped down with straps that were loose and frayed.
The traffic stop led to a search of the car and 41 packages of suspected methamphetamine, two packages of suspected heroin, two packages of suspected cocaine and one package of an unknown substance were found.
Butler made his initial appearance in U.S. District Court Thursday. His preliminary and detention hearings are scheduled for May 29 at 1:30 p.m.
If convicted, Butler could face 10 years to life in prison.
