On November 12th, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department established a perimeter on Withington Ave., to contain a person who invaded a home on Rinetti Way. Once he was chased from the home, he fired shots at his pursuers. Armed with information indicating the gunman had entered one of two houses on West Withington, the Sheriff’s department evacuated all of West Withington, brought in the SWAT team, two EOD robots and K9 units to search the houses, with the Sheriff’s helicopter and the Sacramento City Police Department helicopter overhead. After hours of establishing a strategy and searching the homes, the suspect (or suspects) had escaped.
On Sunday the 22nd, in Rackerby (Yuba County, south of Oroville) that same suspect, Jonnyrae Witt (aka Johnny Ray) allegedly murdered his girlfriend, Leslie Cramblit of Rio Linda with a single gunshot to the head.
On the 23rd, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department performed a warrant search in a home on 9th Ave near Oak Lane at the request of the Yuba County Sheriff. Once again, neighbors were evacuated, a SWAT team and EOD robots were brought in, and once again… nobody was home.
Today, the United States Marshal’s Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force has joined in the search for Witt. This task force includes resources from the United States Marshals Service, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, United States Secret Service, California DOJ, and the California Department of Corrections/Parole.
Witt is approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, 160 pounds and has brown hair with hazel eyes. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to call 911, the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department, or the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.
