- The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports that the 39th Annual Santa Cruz Clam Chowder Cook-off on Feb. 22 raised $81,000 for Santa Cruz Parks & Recreation Department programs. The People’s Choice award and Most Tasted went to Roben Webb and Clamalicious of Rio Linda. Congratulations!
- SacBee.com reports that Camila Cortez, born on Leap Day, February 29th at Mercy San Juan, shares something unique with her father. They were BOTH born on Leap Day. Ivan Rebollar Cortez of Rio Linda and daughter Camila beat the 1 in 2.1 million odds of both father and daughter being born on February 29th. Dignity Health officials said momma Jennifer Rebollar Cortez is recovering and doing well.
- CBS 13 and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office reports that a homicide investigation is underway after a man was found with multiple gunshot wounds at a hotel in North Highlands on Friday. The shooting was reported to the sheriff’s office just before midnight and happened at a hotel on the 5300 block of Date Avenue.
- Community meetings this week: Rio Linda Elverta Visions will meet Monday March 9th, 7pm at Sac Metro Fire Station 111 on Rio Linda Blvd. The Rio Linda Elverta Chamber of Commerce will meet Wednesday March 11th, 6pm at the Depot Visitors Center at Depot Park.
- The “Lunch Bunch” meets next Thursday March 5th from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at Pancake Palace at 6225 Watt Ave. in North Highlands. The featured speaker will be Captian Todd Henry from the North Division Sac County Sheriff’s Office. All are welcome! Bring your fliers, publications, business cards and information to pass along to the others. You never know who will be there but it is always interesting and beneficial to the participants. This is the ultimate networking group. People informally drop in and out as their schedules and time allows. There are no dues, roll calls or obligations for attending.
- Join us for our 2nd annual Crab Feed Murder Mystery Fundraiser! Proceeds go to RLE Community Theater and the RLE Country Faire. Enjoy all you can eat crab (steak option), pasta, salad, and more!
