Sacramento, CA (October 3, 2024) – The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District (Metro Fire) has placed a $415 million Fire & Emergency Response Bond Measure, Measure O, on the November 2024 ballot to address critical infrastructure needs and ensure continued public safety.
Why is Measure O Necessary?
The growing demands of our community have strained Metro Fire’s resources. Aging facilities, outdated equipment, and increased emergency call volumes have highlighted the urgent need for improvements. Rio Linda Online supports Measure O, which aims to address these challenges and maintain the high standards of emergency response services that our community expects.
Key Priorities of Measure O:
- Replace Outdated Equipment: Ensure firefighters have the latest tools and technology to effectively respond to emergencies.
- Modernize Fire Stations: Improve aging fire stations to meet current safety standards and accommodate the needs of modern firefighting operations.
- One such proposed project is the expansion of Station 112 to five bays and 13 beds. Station 112 is located at 34th Street and Elkhorn Blvd in North Highlands and protects the rural area of Eastern Rio Linda.
- Reduce Cancer Exposure: Invest in measures to reduce firefighters’ exposure to cancer-causing substances.
- Enhance Emergency Response Capabilities: Equip stations with advanced technology and resources to handle medical and fire emergencies simultaneously.
- Expand Fire Stations: Construct new stations in high-population areas to reduce response times.
Benefits of Measure O:
- Improved Emergency Response: Faster response times, enhanced firefighting capabilities, and better medical care.
- Safer Communities: A well-equipped and well-trained fire department is essential for protecting our community.
- Sustainable Public Safety: Ensure Metro Fire can continue to serve the community for years to come.
How Measure O Will Impact You:
- Affordable Investment: Measure O would cost approximately $78 per year for the typical property taxpayer, or about $6.50 per month.
- Lower Costs for Seniors: Homeowners with lower assessed values, such as seniors who have owned their homes for a long time, may see even lower costs.
- Fiscal Accountability: Measure O includes strict financial oversight measures to ensure funds are used responsibly.
