The Rio Linda community mourns the loss of Kurtis Alfred Surette, who passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024, in Redding, California, at the age of 73.
Kurt was a beloved husband to Ann, a devoted father to Josh, and a cherished grandfather, great-grandfather, mentor, and coach.
Born in Sacramento on October 14, 1952, Kurt spent his early years in Represa before moving to Orangevale, where he graduated from the first graduating class of Casa Robles High School. In 1973, he married the love of his life, Ann, and together they welcomed their son, Josh, the following year. Throughout his life, Kurt resided in Rio Linda, Elizabeth (Colorado), and Redding, making lasting friendships wherever he called home.
Kurt’s strong work ethic shone through his various careers. He found his greatest fulfillment, however, in giving back to his community. For nearly two decades, he served as the Strength and Conditioning Coach at Rio Linda High School, guiding countless young athletes and leaving a positive impact on their lives.
Beyond his dedication to coaching, Kurt enjoyed an active life filled with workouts, gardening (earning him the nickname “Tomato Man”), cooking and entertaining, exploring the world of food and wine, listening to music, fishing, tinkering with old cars, delving into history, cheering on the Rio Linda Knights Football team, and rooting for the New York Yankees. Above all, Kurt cherished people. He thrived on seeing others smile and succeed, and his door was always open for friends, family – or anyone he considered family – to share a meal, laughter, and good company.
Kurt’s genuine spirit and ability to connect with everyone he met will be deeply missed. A celebration of life will be held at a future date; details will be announced soon.
