The Rio Linda community mourns the loss of Denson J. Mott, a lifelong resident who passed away unexpectedly on December 12, 2024, at the age of 91.
Born and raised in Sacramento, Mr. Mott was a true son of the soil. He grew up on the family ranch, developing a deep connection to the land that would shape his life. This connection led him to pursue an agricultural degree at UC Davis, where he not only excelled academically but also thrived on the gridiron as a member of the varsity football team and served as president of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity.
After college, Mr. Mott followed his passion for agriculture, initially venturing into pig farming. However, he soon discovered his true calling as a miller and manager for the Rice Growers Association, where he dedicated a significant portion of his career.
Retirement brought new opportunities for Mr. Mott. He and his wife, Marlyn, transformed their property into a haven of beauty, cultivating a vibrant garden filled with roses and tomatoes. He also devoted his time to cheering on the Aggies, making frequent trips to Davis to witness the triumphs of the UC Davis football team.
Mr. Mott was a devoted family man, cherishing every moment spent with his loved ones. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Marlyn; his children, Shannon Roth, Karen Schiele, Peter Mott, Michael Mott, and Beverly Triplett; his 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and countless friends and family members.
A celebration of life for Mr. Mott will be held at the end of January.
