RIO LINDA, CA – Rio Linda resident Ronald Eugene Triano, 89, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, February 23, 2025, after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. Known for his resilience and “never quit” attitude, Triano defied expectations, living eight months beyond his initial prognosis.
A true local character, Triano’s life was filled with adventure and service. He was a United States Air Force veteran, serving as a radar operator on Lockheed EC-121 Constellation aircraft at McClellan Air Force Base during the Korean War era. His love of aviation continued throughout his life, becoming a licensed pilot and flight instructor, and even building several aircraft from scratch with his son.
Triano was also a founding member of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club Oakland Chapter, finding camaraderie with fellow war veterans. His adventurous spirit extended to participating in the World’s Toughest Triathlon, supervising nuclear tests, and even motorbike racing and roller derby with the L.A. Thunderbirds in his youth.
Locally, many will remember Triano’s passion for music. He was an accomplished pianist and organist, often filling his home with music. He was also active in the Lake Tahoe community theater and dance scene, even performing at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe. In his later years, he and his daughter shared a passion for Jazzercise, continuing the activity until he was 85.
Beyond his hobbies, Triano was a dedicated community member. He was a building superintendent, notably constructing a Lutheran church in Paso Robles that received the city’s Beautification Award. He was also a devoted family man, sharing his passions with his children and grandchildren, from building rockets and fixing cars to embroidery and cooking. His last project was constructing a horse barn at the age of 88.
Triano’s commitment to service shone through his actions, whether helping his family, volunteering with his church’s “old geezers” group, or simply lending a helping hand. He instilled values of punctuality, dedication, and love in his family.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn Triano, his children Dave & Shauna Triano, Steve & Veronica Triano, Sarah Triano & Jason Lopez, and Linda Sheffield, and his grandchildren Steven, Lorenzo, Liani, Tony, Andrew (Thea), and Parker.
The family expresses gratitude to HomeWatch caregivers, SunCrest Hospice, and the Mather VA Medical Center Oncology team for their compassionate care.
