Authorities in Sacramento County have formally charged a 15-year-old with the murder of 17-year-old Andres Julian Chavez following a fatal drive-by shooting on 22nd Street in Rio Linda last September.
The shooting unfolded on September 18, 2023, in front of Chavez’s residence located on the 6900 block of 22nd Street, near Elkhorn Boulevard.
Chavez’s mother, Rosy Gomez, described how her son managed to return inside their home after being shot. Despite immediate calls for help and the arrival of first responders, Chavez’s life could not be saved.
Chavez, a senior in high school, had aspirations of military service, according to his mother. Remembered for his humor and deep family affection, Chavez attended an independent study program within the Twin Rivers Unified School District at the time of his death.
Initially detained on gun-related charges, the 15-year-old suspect is now facing murder charges linked to Chavez’s death. While this individual has been charged, sheriff’s office representatives indicate that the investigation continues, with a search for additional suspects possibly connected to the incident.
